Matome Thato Makwela is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Limpopo (Turfloop Campus) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Insolvency Law and Practice with the University of Pretoria. Thato has successfully completed the Diploma in Insolvency Law and Practice with distinction in 2014 from the University of Pretoria and in 2016 he obtained two more qualifications from the Law Society of South Africa Legal Education and Development (LSSA LEAD) and University of Southern Africa (UNISA), where he obtained a certificate in Medical Law and Advanced Business Rescue respectively.

Thato served his articles and prior to the completion of his LLB Degree and prior serving articles of clerkship, during his times as a student at Turfloop; he was sharpening his legal knowledge and skills by doing vacation work with firms of attorneys and the office of the Master of the High Court Polokwane.

In his short but rewarding legal career, Thato gained experience in Magistrate Court and High Court Litigation, alternative dispute resolution, labour law, debt collection, family law, motor vehicle accident claims and commercial litigation. Thato has a great interest Labour Law, Commercial Law, Business Rescue and Insolvency Law and Corporate Governance.

In 2015 Thato was appointed as a Part-time Lecturer at the Tshwane University of Technology giving lectures in Family Law and Labour Law. His appointment as a lecturer has increased his level of expertise in the fields of Family Law and Labour Law as whole.



Thato is on the Masters Panel of Liquidators and Trustees and insolvency practitioners. Mr Makwela is eligible to take appointments as a Trustee or Liquidator of Insolvent estates as and when appointed by the Master of the High Court.
